Capacitance Conversion Chart

The chart below converts Microfarads to Nanofarads to Picofarads. No more worrying about decimal points!

One of the most common questions we get about capacitors is "what's the difference between uF and mFD?"

The short answer is that they both are abbreviations for the same term: Microfarads. Other common abbreviations are MFD, MF, and UF. The correct abbreviation is F, but over the years, the symbol '?µ' has been displaced by the 'u'. You will see these abbreviations most often with electrolytic capacitors and mylar, or film capacitors.

Mica capacitors are measured in Picofarads, also known as Micromicrofarads. You might see picofarads abbreviated as pF, mmfd, uuf, and mmf.
